Wayne Hunter the Wood Cutter's

Full-Cord Guarantee

A cord of wood "is a volume of 128 cubic feet of wood, bark, and air space. The actual amount of wood in a cord varies depending on the size of the sticks and how well they are trimmed and stacked. A cord of firewood with six-to-eight-inch diameter, well-trimmed sticks, carefully stacked will contain 85 to 90 cubic feet of wood and bark. Note that a cord is not a precise measure of wood volume."  From the publication "Purchasing Firewood in Alaska", which can be found at this link

If you buy a cord of Wayne Hunter the Wood Cutter's 100% birch firewood, you can rest assured that you are getting a full cord.  Wayne encourages each of his customers to stack the firewood that he brings them and measure it as soon as possible after receiving it.  If any customer's firewood order measures less than a full cord, per cord, all the customer has to do is contact Wayne and let him know that the cord fell short.  Wayne will return to the customer's home with enough wood to make the cord full.

Occasionally a customer finds himself dissatisfied with the "punk" or various levels of decay in the wood...

A Little About Birch Wood "Punk"

"Punk" is a term used for spongy, brown wood that's found in the middle of some over-mature birch trees. This punk is not hard and solid like the rest of the log. Since Wayne Hunter the Wood Cutter cuts only over-mature birch from Interior Alaskan state and FNSB forests, his wood often contains this.

The photo above is of a typical log truck load of Wayne's firewood. As you see (click it to enlarge it, if you'd like), some trees have punk and decay and some don't.

Wayne Hunter the Wood Cutter guarantees that each of his customers will have a full-cord of hard, solid birch firewood, in every cord sold, after cutting out the "punk" and decay.

Since Wayne sells only over-mature trees (helping the health of our local forests and making this wonderfully renewable, useful resource available to local citizens), his prices are lower than some other local woodsellers who sell wood from younger trees. His customers receive the same amount of wood for a lower price and help our local forest and economic health!

In the few years that Wayne Hunter the Wood Cutter has operated his business, he has never had any customer call him to report less than a full cord.  In actuality, he has had several customers state that he has brought them "too much wood", meaning that they are surprised that he brings them enough wood to ensure a full cord.  It's always Wayne's aim to conduct an honest, dependable, business and make sure that his customers always receive what they have paid for; it's his guarantee.

Customer Satisfaction Guarantee

Wayne makes sure that each of his customers know that they are buying the "freshest, greenest wood available" as well as asks each customer to take a look at the wood he has brought them to be sure that they want to buy it before he unloads it.  This helps ensure his customers don't spend their money on firewood that's unwanted or that doesn't meet their expectations.

If you are unhappy with any service aspect of Wayne Hunter the Wood Cutter, such as feeling like he didn't answer your questions correctly or was unprofessional, or anything like that, he encourages you to let him know.  Your opinion of Wayne Hunter the Wood Cutter matters a great deal to him; sharing what you have to say can help you feel better about your experience with Wayne Hunter the Wood Cutter and helps him better relate to his customers.

If you are in any way dissatisfied with any aspect of Wayne Hunter the Wood Cutter's firewood or service, please let him know so that he can try his best to make things right with you.  His desire is to try to make your experience with him outstanding and to do all he can to make sure that each of his customers are fully satisfied - it's his guarantee!

Free Chain Sharpenings

At different times of the year (after heavy rains, spring breakup, etc.), some of the wood Wayne sells is dirty as it has to be drug through dirt and mud to be loaded.  This dirt/mud can dull chainsaw chains more quickly than clean wood does.  To compensate for this, Wayne now gives each customer whose logs are dirty a card good for two free chainsaw chain sharpenings from *The Woodway (http://www.thewoodway.com/) in Fairbanks!

*Wayne Hunter the Wood Cutter and The Woodway are not affiliates.  Wayne does buy his chainsaws and associated products from, and has them fixed by, The Woodway; he finds their service and quality excellent.

* Wayne does not recommend burning the green wood prior to adequate seasoning because of chimney fire risks and other hazards.
